Hey...Yall sure are bringing back some fond memories for me. I was at the gates when they opened and got my own piece of the wall. Over the years, people have asked me for pieces. At the time, it was about 2 square feet, now it's almost a pebble! When I was there, there were little "bed and breakfast" type places called "ghausthous" (my german spelling is very bad...remember...I haven't been there in over 15 years) These were quant little houses turned into taverns and restuarants. For 8 Marks (at that time, that was about 2 dollars), you got a room with a bed and sink...community water closet. My Mom and I stayed in them all over the country. Good german food too. My favorite dish was snitzel mit spatzel und pomm fritts. You gotta try it. Oh, and the brats...I'm still hooked on them. Find you a little turkish imbiss...best gyros you'll ever have...haven't been able to get one of those here. Have you tried the local backery? German pastries are awsome...now you know why I can't keep wieght off of me. Back to your traveling...Munchen is an awsome historical place. I was stationed there (actually outside at Foyt Army Airfield). I think it is a truck depot now. I saw ZZ Top at the parade grounds where Hitler used to hold his parades. The lake or big pond is a great place to visit in the summer. Of course Octoberfest is there as well. If yall get a chance, you ought to get down to the black forest. I camped all over southern germany. I'll try to find all my german stuff and maps and give you some out of the way cheap places to visit that I thought was neat. I'd say that country has changed alot. Do the stores still close every day at 6 and are not open on the weekends? I never got used to that. Yall have a great time and enjoy...I'll keep reading...
